Anti-fouling paint applications  when coating the hull of a boat or a ship with a copper  solution  protects against weed and animal fouling for upto 10 years.With no chemical biocides or VOC.solvents , the anti-fouling properties are provided entirely by the natural reaction between  copper and water. After immersion  any surface patina  developed will keep the nickel contained in the paint as a result keeps  the leach rate low without effecting anti-fouling properties.
